Yesterday evening I took Wolfling to [livejournal.com profile] lupabitch's The Last Totem Deck You'll Ever Need workshop. I thought this would be a great opportunity for her to start to get some outside perspectives on various ways to work with the animal spirits to which she connects so easily. And while I can't say I know Lupa well personally, I'd read enough about her shamanic work to feel comfortable taking my daughter to her class.

There were only five of us in the class (which was too bad, given the quality of Lupa's presentation), but those of us who hadn't met in person before were all familiar with each other's LJ handles, which was fun.

The class itself was great. I had been trying to figure out how Lupa could possibly come up with "the last totem deck you'll ever need" -- but she was right! I won't share her technique here, since I know she's going to be using it in an upcoming book, but it was extremely creative and out-of-the-box. I don't do a lot of work with animal spirits, so I'm not sure how much I'm going to use it, but on the way home Wolfling immediately started talking about getting stronger paper to make a new deck, and maybe get some stones to use instead.

I was very proud of the way Wolfling handled herself at the workshop too. She tends to be a bit shy meeting new people, but she took part in some of the banter, and was very poised and attentive. She'd never done a formal guided visualization before, and was delighted by the experience and the results she got. We both enjoyed the class itself, learned a few things, and had fun finding something new to do together.
