qos: (Sharpe Never Say Die)
Of course we have record-breaking heat right after I move out of my always-cool-in-summer basement. I will be sleeping downstairs on the couch under the ceiling fan tonight. (The daughter is with her father for a couple of days.)

This morning I had an upper endoscopy, which revealed that I have a hiatal(sp?) hernia, which means a piece of my stomach is keeping the valve at the top from closing completely. I'm told they usually don't do surgery to correct this, but control symptoms through dietary changes. The back of my throat is sore from the camera -- and evidently I struggled against it even under sedation, so that probably didn't help.

Cable tv and internet have both been out since last night. Provider's circuits were all busy, so I guess it's not just me.

I slept most of the afternoon and early evening. I'm not sure how much is due to the lingering sedative in my system and how much is due to overall fatigue.

I don't like the thought that there's something wrong with my body that's not going to be fixed. I'm fortunate that it's not a very serious issue, but it still makes me twitchy.

Gratitude

Last night I would have broken down again in overwhelming tears, were it not for loving phonecalls from and with Oakmouse, Professor_Mom, and A_Belletrist.

Thank-you, my friends, for keeping the darkness at bay.
