The party at my parents' place was mostly enjoyable, although eight hours of socializing is a bit much for an introvert! It was genuinely good, however, to see a lot of old friends of the family, some of whom we have not seen for a decade or more.

My oldest (since 1974) girlfriend was there, and we immediately retreated to a bedroom together to catch up, sitting on the bed as if we were back in elementary school and junior high. It was fun, even though we both had some painful things to share, and we both marveled at how different our lives have turned out from what we had expected.

My parents loved the gift of several days at the inn where I took Lohain for his birthday, and Dad loved the Father's Day cards.

My sister's husband, S, is a great guy and he too gave my dad a Father's Day card. Dad was pleased, and remarked on how nice it was to get a card from a son-in-law. To which my sister chirped up, "Especially one who's not going to leave!"

I knew what she meant, and that it had nothing to do with me, but that implication did cross my mind. So I turned to look at her with a Thank you so much for that slap across the face look. It took her a moment to realize why everyone started laughing at her, then she colored and started protesting that she was talking about her own first husband (long time ago) not anything to do with me. She apologized profusely. Truly, I had known what she meant, but it was wicked-sister-satisfaction to tweak her.

Unfortunately, the woman with the duplex could not show me the place last night, so I'm off soon to take a look this morning, hopefully getting back before [livejournal.com profile] jillwheezul and Hob arrive for their visit. Also hope to see [livejournal.com profile] a_belletrist today. And [livejournal.com profile] _storyteller_.

Of course I also have dishes to wash before company arrives. . .

Thank You
