Remember how -- once upon a time -- I used to write about starting up a practice as a spiritual director?

Yeah, I had kind of forgotten that too.
*facepalm*

On Monday morning I was driving in to work, and as I turned to pull into the parking lot I felt a knot of resistance in my gut about being there at all. The next moment I thought about my recently-expressed ambivalence about returning to school, and then it occurred to me that I need to get a handle (again) on what I want, and then take some more decisive steps to move in that direction, or I'm going to end up working at [deleted] forever, with no meaningful vocational activity to enrich my spirit or my bank account.

Monday afternoon, I had my Q2 performance review.
Quarterly reviews are new this year, and are supposed to include a career planning discussion.
I had not used the new online form to prepare, so I had not completed those questions, so Jeannie handed me a print-out and said, "You need to think about these questions, and we'll discuss them the next time we meet."

The creators of Les Miserables have written a new musical just for me!

The Pirate Queen, based on the life of Grania (Grace) O'Malley.

Questions

[livejournal.com profile] yezida asked today:

What are you slave to?

What do you desire?

What are you willing to. . . ?

I am a slave to the perception of security.

I desire to manifest myself fully as a sacred, holy woman, a Wise Woman, a Queen -- and sometime Pirate. (Because everyone needs to cut loose every once in a while.)

It's the third question that's the hard one. I keep hearing Sean Connery in The Untouchables saying, "What are y' prepared to do?"

I need to be willing to
- risk being regarded as a fool (even if it's actually the other person who's foolish)
- risk exposing myself as a Wild Wolf Woman in the midst of civilized society
- risk making stupid mistakes
- risk becoming an authority figure
- risk people trusting me with their most secret and precious selves
- risk trusting myself rather than an organization for my financial stability
- risk taking responsibility for my own future

And I'm going to stop there before I really scare myself.

Because it's fun to have a fictional character to squee over again.
(It's been too long since there was anything new to write about Aragorn and LOTR -- although he still has my heart!)

Cut for naughty -- PG-13 at least -- animated LJ icon )
