Last night my friend Stephanie had her annual "Year of Dreams Coming True" gathering, which she holds the night before Martin Luther King's day. We gather to share our dreams for the coming year, share resources and suggestions and energy, and then write down our dreams and burn them to release them. Steph's gatherings are always powerful; she has a real gift for this kind of thing.

Her daughter C is 21, and she and her friend K were there -- the girls for whom I did the tarot readings the last time we had a gathering. They brought their friend S this time. I'm someone who usually has trouble expanding the boundaries of a community, but these young women are an exciting addition to our group. They have lots of energy, and an intense need for the companionship of and mentoring from older women.

K and I were delighted to see each other again, and she told me that she and C "have been bragging about you to our friends" (!!). Evidently the tarot reading I did for her, which had suggested rough times for her ahead, had been accurate. She had told her friends about it soon after we'd met, and now they as well as she are amazed at how well I had predicted what was coming up for her. She said that the reading had given her comfort, and had helped prepare her to deal with it. She also said that my honesty had been reassuring: "You didn't tell me I was going to get a lot of money, you told me what you saw, even though it was kind of scary." It made me trustworthy.

Let me tell you: it's a bit of a strange sensation to know that I'm being spoken of to people I've never met as a reliable oracle. Not a bad situation, of course -- but not one I'm used to. And now evidently several of her friends want readings too.

Usually I bring my cards to Stephanie's gatherings, but last night I completely forgot, much to the disappointment of the younger women -- but it really wasn't that kind of evening. I gave S my contact info, and made sure K still had mine, and urged them to give me a call or email so we could set something else up.

And it's definitely time to start setting rates for my readings, if their friends follow through with their interest. At Steph's home, or within that small community, I feel like it's sharing with friends. Beyond that, it's time that some honorarium was paid.

From kirotv.com:

"Seattle ended its streak of 27 consecutive rainy days on Sunday, missing a record by six days."

Of course, there's no telling when the rain will resume. . . but at least there was sunshine and some time to dry out yesterday!

I haven't been posting quiz results lately, but I really liked this one.

Homebrewing
56% vivacity, 71% benevolence, 67% intellectualism
You are Homebrewing! You allow people to make beer, wine, or (heaven help us) mead, watching the transformation all the way from gross plant matter to delicious beverages. Through you, drinking is elevated from a pleasant recreational activity to a physical, intellectual, and aesthetic exercise. Brewers can save money, connect with friends and colleagues, and exercise their creativity to produce something uniquely their own. Then, of course, comes the drinking.

7:15 -- I griped to myself that I didn't want to get on the treadmill, even though I'd been self-indulgent over the weekend.

7:17 -- I asked myself which I didn't want more: to get on the treadmill, or continue to be overweight.

7:20 -- I got on the treadmill for 30 minutes, and did 1.72 miles.
