qos: (Belle Book Love)
Back in the mid-eighties, I read a science fiction novel by C.S. Friedman called In Conquest Born, which since then has been living on my "Select Library" Shelf. It's a story of two mortal enemies who have a relationship more intense than that of some lovers. The scene in which they swear their enmity is as intimate as any wedding ceremony.

This weekend, while browsing at B.Dalton, I broke my current rule of not buying new books off the shelf and picked up The Wilding, which was published last year. It's a sequel to In Conquest Born, set 200 years later.

I've been reading it avidly. I've never read any of Friedman's other books, but this universe pushes several of my favorite buttons, especially around power-charged relationships and warrior culture. It's vividly written, with a revolving point of view that I find very enjoyable.

I so love finding books like this one!
