qos: (KB All is Right)
Well, it's 8am and I didn't get a phone call last night, so I presume all is well.

Today my daughter and I pulled up the carpet in my rather large living room -- the last carpet in the house. (All the rest had come up a few years ago, during the worst of my flooding problems.) It took several hours of moving stuff, pulling, cutting, crowbar-ing (to get the tackboards up), sweeping, and hauling (out of the living room, then up the stairs, into P's truck, then out of the truck into the dump). I have been up and down from my knees so many times I don't even want to think about it, and my hands are sore from gripping and pulling all afternoon.

But a very large amount of icky carpet is now gone. The floor under it is the same light brown 1970's institutional tile as in my kitchen. It's not pretty, but it's better than the carpet, and the room feels much more open and clean than it did. I'll need to get a couple of throw rugs, but that's fine.

The child did a wonderful job helping: not a word of reluctance or complaint. We did half the room, then took a break. I drove her to McDonalds and got her a McFlurry -- and she dozed off in the car on the way. She ate the ice cream, and when we got inside the house again I realized she was looking seriously zoned. So she was excused to take a bath and then put on one of my big nightshirts. She curled up on the couch and was asleep in five minutes. That was around 3pm. It's now 6:30 and she's been out like a light the entire time.

It turns out she did get scared at the slumber party last night, but didn't want to wake me or her friend's parents, so she braved it out. But she didn't sleep well.

I keep wondering what time she'll wake up tonight and not be able to fall back to sleep.

Tomorrow we finish scraping up the adhesive on the floor (not much, thank goodness), wash the floor, and put all the stuff back in place.

If I were really ambitious, I'd try to get the primer up on the bedroom walls tomorrow afternoon or evening, but I don't think it's going to happen. I think I'll settle for getting the taping done.
