qos: (Homemade Queen)
As some of you may remember, my parents got me a countertop dishwasher for my birthday last year -- except that none of us thought to check the dimenions and it was just a hair too big to actually fit on my counter anywhere near the sink. So they took it back and I was very disappointed.

Last week, [livejournal.com profile] bookchick gave me her old countertop dishwasher, which has been lightly used -- and commented that she had put hers on a microwave cart.

We can do that???

So yesterday after my outing with Hob, I drove down to Ikea (a place I usually don't go because I'm not into minimalist styles) and spent $45 for a solid, butcher-block kitchen cart that should handle the 20"x20"x20 unit. I was too tired to put it together last night, but will do so tomorrow.

This afternoon I'm meeting with my spiritual director, then having dinner with [livejournal.com profile] rocket_jockey, then coming home to spend time with the Child, who has been with my parents since yesterday.

My heart goes out to all those Katrina's path right now, especially New Orleans, which evidently could cease to exist as we know it.

And the warnings about the chemical plants and fuel storage units being destroyed and dumping their toxic contents into the air and water is truly terrifying.

This is why I do my best to keep smiling when I get water in my basement. It's a miserable inconvenience, and I hate it -- but it could be so much worse.
