Unexpected Gratification
May. 6th, 2004 10:01 pmI'm still struggling with my cold, and my nose is raw from all the blowing that I've been doing, but I received a gratifying pair of compliments from my Swedenborgian Exegesis prof this evening. I emailed him yesterday requesting an incomplete in the class, with the expectation that I would finish the final paper before the end of June. He fully supported my request, and ended his message with this:
". . . in the meanwhile I hope you will participate in what little is left of the Discussion Board. You come at the material from your own unique place and with what strikes me as a great deal of integrity, and what you say is of value to the other students."
I'm very aware of the difference between my perspectives and those of most of my classmates, some of whom are cradle Swedenborgians. George is one of the most honored elders of our tradition and a respected scholar beyond our borders as well as within. I consider his comments on my integrity and the quality/value of my participation to be compliments to cherish.
My evening tomorrow will be child-free, thanks to my mom and the Ex. I found out yesterday that "The Return of the King" is playing at a second-run theater ten minutes from my house. I plan to take myself out to the movie to celebrate the end of a very long week.
