1. Two black taper candles

2. 1 Red apple

3. Red wine

4. Black tablecloth

5. White votives

I don't usually drink wine at all, much less red wine. Can anyone suggest a variety that's not very expensive but nice to drink? All I'll be eating during the ritual itself is half of the apple.

I recommend Australian reds, inexpensive but tasty. Yellowtail is a very reliable vintner; you might also like Little Boomey or Woop Woop. I would suggest trying a Cabernet; IIRC, that's the lightest red.

Trader Joe's should have Two-Buck Chuck. I've never had a bad one. :-)

I like Cotes du Rhone (often affordable, earthy, nice body with a little spice), Malbec (again, you can get something good for ten bucks; this is more jammy), and Grenache (aka Garnacha if it's Spanish; it's got a sort of round raspberry/peppery taste).

I second Yellowtail. Their shiraz blends are great. Also Ravenswood (plus I just like the label design). Merlot or Cabernet.

Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately I need to avoid Australian wines. LM would growl at me if I brought one to a ritual. He has a very, very old 'thing' about Australia. It's half-joking, but I still wouldn't want to stir that particular pot tomorrow night.

Glad to hear the Ravenswood is good. That seemed appropriate for tomorrow night.

Get a merlot or cabernet. I can't drink red wine easily, either, so go with the ancient Greeks and cut it with a bit of room temperature water if you need to.

All you red wine afficionados, don't scream. . .

Post Familie's Red Table Wine, chilled, five bucks.
