Let's Just Get Government Out of the Marriage Business

The problem with that - the way it's written anyway - is that legal marriage is a state legislated contract. That's why you have to have a legal divorce to "break" the contract. The government has been all twisted up in marriage for centuries, not the church. Think of it as jurisdiction is with the state, venue is frequently in a church, synagogue, mosque, etc.

Here's my suggestion for how to re-write it. . .

Copy THIS sentence into your journal if you believe the fucking church should keep its lousy nose out of the legal state sanctioned contract of marriage period, since the United States Constitution compels separation of church and state, and since religious communities abdicated the responsibility for marriage since before King James wrote his version of the Christian Bible.
