Being Yin, Wrapped in Light
Nov. 7th, 2007 12:09 pmPart of my morning practice is an RJ Stewart exercise called "The Rising Light Below." It involves drawing up light from the Underworld, giving it elemental qualities as it rises: feet/earth, pelvis/water, heart/fire, head/air. Then I lower it back through my body and elements back down into the Underworld.
This morning I was more attuned than usual to the elemental qualities, especially the Water.
It occurred to me that I need to be more yin in my spirituality right now. I've spent a lot of time trying, struggling, striving. Right now it's time to stop trying to do and concentrate instead on being receptive, on listening, on letting things come, and then flowing instead of fretting.
I also felt a strong need to balance the Underworld focus with other energies (something Ereshkigal affirmed, even though she has been unapologetic about monopolizing my attention during practice and devotions). My teacher has a practice she gave me to do that, but I did my own variation this morning: first drawing up the Underworld light and holding it, then calling down and gathering in sunlight, drawing it over and around me. Finally I reached past the sun and brought in starlight, wrapping it around me with a twirling motion, so in the end I was filled with Underworld Light, coated with sunlight, and spun in starlight.
I absorbed some of all three, let the extra go, and ended up feeling strong and energized.

When the cord is barely in the socket the power flow may be fitful and the appliance not work quite as it should, but when the cord is securely in the socket, current flows smoothly and well and the appliance works properly.
(The phrase "on your contacts" may actually originate from electrical slang (as in the contacts of a battery) so that image is always the first to come to mind for me.)
