The Lamp and the Mirror: Authority
Jul. 21st, 2008 08:35 amYesterday's class went very well -- better than the first one. At the end, one of the participants said, "I have an entirely different understanding of authority than I did when I came in" --- which is pretty much the highest praise I could look for, given the intent of the class.
It was a valuable session for me too. Previously I'd been thinking of authority entirely in terms of external authority -- but in the course of the last two days of preparation I started thinking in terms of internal authority and of claiming and/or earning authority in the eyes of others. It made a real difference in the overall impact of the class, I think.
