Lovely Weekend
Apr. 29th, 2007 05:10 pmThe weekend getaway with
uncrowned_king was utterly wonderful.
Friday after work I picked him from his apartment and we enjoyed a two hour drive out of town and up into the mountains, finally arriving at a quiet vacation town on the other side of the summit. The luxurious B&B we stayed at more than met my expectations: private deck overlooking a woods and a stream where deer came down to drink in the evening, hot tub for two, king size log bed, and etc. After we'd checked in, we drove back into town for a late dinner, and a had a nice meal at a family-style pub.
On Saturday morning we shared a sumptuous communal breakfast with the other guests, then borrowed bicycles and did a 6+ mile ride around the area. It was the first time I had been on a bike in longer than I can remember, and I was apprehensive at first -- but it's true that you never forget how to ride. Once the seat was adjusted properly, I was fine. And I had forgotten what it feels like to go coasting down a long hill in the sunshine, with the wind streaming through my hair, and getting as close to flying as a person can while staying on the ground.
On Saturday afternoon we walked around the quaint mountain town (including a quirky little independent bookstore), then took a walk around the riverside park and island, then had Coldstone ice cream. For dinner we grabbed a pizza and brought it back to the room. After dinner I took my diary and a new book out on the deck, stretched out on the two-person porch swing, and journaled and read as the sun began to sink and the birds fed at the stream and the deer started coming down. It was utterly gorgeous.
Before we'd left,
uncrowned_king had picked up a new gaming book called "Scion: Hero," in which the player characters are the modern-day children of gods, and we spent a lot of time talking about the system, the pantheons, and possibilities for campaigns. I bought David James Duncan's newest book, a collection of essays on spirituality, and the two of us took turns reading out loud to each other from our own books.
It was a perfect weekend.
