Solstice Blessings -- Calling the Light
Dec. 21st, 2006 06:05 amThis invocation is from a medieval military fantasy novel, Divided Allegiance, by Elizabeth Moon.
In darkness, in cold, in the midst of winter
where nothing walks the earth but death and fear
let the brave rejoice: I call the light!
Out of darkness, light
Out of silence, song
Out of the sun's death, the birth of the new year
Out of cold, fire
Out of death, life
Out of fear, courage to see the day
In darker night, brighter stars
In greater fear, greater courage
In the midst of winter, the world's birth
Praise to ______!
[insert the name or title of your own deity]
And this is from me:
As the sun begins to push back the long nights, may the light of wisdom and the warmth of love flow into our minds, our hearts, and our world with ever-increasing power, and push back the darkness of ignorance, hatred, abuse, and violence.
Let us re-commit ourselves to the ideals of the Light that transcend creed and congregation: justice, mercy, love of neighbor, compassion, good stewardship of the earth and whatever bounty we have received, and defiant joy in the beauty of life and love.
