The Pineapple Express
Dec. 10th, 2004 04:56 pmTwo of the words I dread most are "Pineapple Express" -- the name given by I-don't-know-who to a combination of unseasonably mild weather accompanied by torrential downpours.
During the last two years, the Pineapple Express has been accompanied by flooding in my basement home.
The Pineapple Express arrived this week, and I have been stressing for the past three days as the rains have come down - but not, it seems, quite as hard as in the past couple of years.
My floor, it is dry!
This morning I made the mistake of bundling up all my gear (large bag, umbrella, heavy jacket) before going into the bedroom to kiss my daughter goodbye. On my way out, I knocked the stopper out of the water jug, resulting in a pour of water onto my kitchen floor. Fortunately I was able to correct the situation before it became an actual Problem, but it was a considerable mess at a very inconvenient time.
I am hoping that the large spill will be considered an acceptable libation by the water elementals, and they will not consider it necessary to flood me again this year.
