The General Perversity of the Universe
Mar. 5th, 2004 02:55 pmI'm in the midst of one of the busiest, most stressful periods I've had for quite a long time.
It was my good luck to be able to leave work 90 minutes early today to work on my Christology paper before heading to campus for the special lecture this evening.
So what do I find on my doorstep when I get home? A box from Amazon.com with not one but two new releases that I'd pre-ordered, by two of the very few authors I buy in hardcover.
Can I take the time to enjoy these two lovely books? Nooooo. . . . I have to set them aside and ignore their siren songs while I buckle down to work. I don't dare even crack their covers. I shouldn't have even opened the box.
In case you're wondering, the books are:
The Last Light of the Sun, by Guy Gavriel Kay
Seduced by Moonlight, by Laurell K. Hamilton
Kay is a magnificent writer of historical fantasy. Hamilton isn't in his class, but I take perverse pleasure in her perversely sexy Princess Merry Gentry series. (I've never read her Anita Blake books - another perversity on my part.)
Back to work!
