"Alice in Wonderland"

I'm not a fan of the "Alice" stories -- although I love [livejournal.com profile] erl_queen's explorations of the "Girls Underground" motif.

I'm not a huge fan of Tim Burton.
I don't adore Johnny Depp.

I went to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D with Wolfling this evening primarily because it was something fun for us to do together.

I did not expect to have an experience of magic.

I did not expect to feel joy and wonder and a renewed hope of extrordinary possibilities.

I felt like I was twelve years old again.

Don't ask me to describe the movie or analyze why it felt the way it did to me. If I turn on my Queen of Swords analysis, all the flaws pop up and I wonder how it could have had the impact it did.

For once -- as I used to do all the time -- I'm just going to revel in the magic.

I'm going to let it continue the process of bringing me fully back to life. Back to myself. Back to a part of my core that's been missing for a very long time.

That's quite a compelling review!

I wasn't sure if I should see it in the cinema or not...Perhaps I'll do so in the near future.

Thank you for the information - I love Johnny Depp's work, but specifically have not seen this film because I've found most of Tim Burton's recent films to be remarkably uninteresting and for Burton to have Depp play the exact same character from one film to the next. If this is not true with Alice in Wonderland, then I'm far more interesting to see it. Also, I'm very pleased to know that you continue to find new joys in life.

There's a smart way to go. :) That's how I do it, have done for a very, very long time.

Outstanding. Glad you had such a grand experience.

This is the exact same way I felt when I watched the movie Avatar. I could point out probably hundreds of problems, but it immersed me in the story so much I never even noticed it. It's nice to enjoy the magic of a story once in a while, without having to worry about if its a "good Hollywood movie".

I also loved Alice. I hope to at least see it in the cheap seats again before it comes out on DVD!
