Jury Duty

I've been summoned for jury duty again.

Those who were on the f-list last year may recall my adventure serving on the jury of the Russian immigrant accused of DUI whose defense consisted of asserting that his chronic medical problems caused him to fail the roadside sobriety tests, not actual intoxication.

I really enjoyed the experience, including the challenge of coming to a verdict, and I'm looking forward to going back. This time I won't be downtown, but in the secondary court in a suburb south of the city. It will be a long-ish commute, but I have my iPod.

My summons date is May 14th, which fortunately is after the next class I'm registered to take through work.

What are your feelings about it?

Do you think you'd like to sit on a jury, or would you rather avoid it if you could?

What has been the matter with my spelling lately - two? I've been noticing that I have been switching words that sound alike quite a bit lately - something I have never done before. Hmmmm. Getting old is not so fun.

The jury notification says that I will be needed 5 to 6 weeks. I suspect that it will not be possible to take such a prolonged absence at work. I wouldn't mind seeing how the system works, but I also expect that I might be dismissed as too liberal.
