Next Quarter
Last week, I registered for two classes for Spring Quarter: "Christian Sexuality" (one of the core classes, required for all graduate students in my program) and "Women, Spirituality and Leadership," a special online offering.
Yesterday I dropped "Christian Sexuality" in order to allow more time and energy for one-on-one studies with a mentor outside of the seminary. If it develops as I hope, it may well lead to me withdrawing from the Masters program before Fall. I'm going to spend Spring quarter doing both (and seeing how well that works), and then Summer focusing on the new program, since SU doesn't offer evening or weekend courses during Summer Quarter. By Fall, I hope to have done enough exploration and discernment to make a sound decision about which way my path is going.
(I apologize for being mysterious, but this is something I'm not quite ready to discuss in a non-filtered post.)
The intersection of sexuality and spirituality is of great interest to me, but I realized that I am not particularly interested in what the previously-mentioned course is going to say about it. I don't expect it to be narrow (based on my other experiences here at SU), but I hardly expect it to be as expansive as I would like. I probably shouldn't judge -- and I admit to feeling a sneaking amusement at the thought of what my own participation might be like -- but overall, I'm not particularly interested in investing energy there. Not in this context.
On the other hand, leadership is also an area of great importance to me, but not something I've actually studied, and I'm very much looking forward to this class. It's an online class, so that means more flexibility and no need to go to campus, which is nice.
